However, most, if not all, of the information in these seminars and books can be found for free, yes for free, at your local library or on the internet. It is a myth that there is a government grant to start a business available. "If the government was in the position of providing all of the funds for free to people who start their own businesses, we wouldn't last long," says Mike Stamler, a spokesman for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C. "Not to mention that the American people would never stand for the government setting individuals up in business at no cost, and all at taxpayer risk." Common sense should tell you that no one, except maybe your parents, is going to just hand over money for a risky venture. Yet, the myth of a government grant to start a small business endures.

There are no grants that could be classified as a government grant to start a business. There are some grants for small businesses, but many of these are aimed at research and development of technology based products and services for the government. Also, there are a few grants available for small businesses looking to locate in underdeveloped neighborhoods or in areas that would provide jobs to economically challenged areas. But there is no such thing as a government grant to start a business.

Don't be discouraged by the fact that there isn't a government grant to start a business. There are many funding options available for individuals looking to start a business. Also, most new businesses are started with very little start-up money. Despite not being able to get a government grant to start a business, you can surely find other sources of funding to make your dream come true.
